LANIADO & OPERATION ROARING LION *Emergency Surgery Performed in Laniado Hospital’s
The patient, a female infant only two days old , was diagnosed shortly after birth. Due to her complex clinical status, compounded by the ongoing security situation and frequent sirens, the NICU team decided to perform the urgent surgery within the unit's fully fortified complex. The operation was performed by a senior surgical team from *Schneider Children’s Medical Center* , led by * Dr. Anastasia Almog *. Schneider’s surgical department has maintained a close strategic partnership with Laniado Hospital for several years. Joining the Schneider team were senior specialists from Laniado Hospital : * Dr. Aryeh Simmonds * (Director of the NICU), *Dr. Yulia Frod * (Head of Anesthesia ), and * Dr. Mordechai Pollak* (Director of the Pediatric Pulmonology Clinic), alongside an extensive nursing team led by NICU Head Nurse , * Ms. Eti Litig *. Despite Home Front Command alerts sounding during the procedure, the surgical team — operating within the fortified NICU — continued the life-saving surgery without interruption.
Sheltered NICU on Newborn with Rare Esophageal Defect* Esophageal Atresia (EA) is a relatively rare congenital anomaly in which the
esophagus does not develop properly. Instead of connecting the throat to the stomach, the esophagus ends in a blind pouch, preventing food and fluids from reaching the stomach. This condition often involves an abnormal connection between the esophagus and the trachea (tracheoesophageal fistula), which can lead to severe feeding and respiratory distress. Given these complications, EA is a critical clinical condition requiring urgent surgical intervention. *Recently Laniado Hospital conducted a comprehensive Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill. Managed by the Hospital’s Emergency Committee, the exercise simulated the intake of numerous casualties — men, women, and children — following a missile strike scenario in Netanya.* The drill saw the active participation of emergency rescue organizations, the Israel Police, and the Home Front Command reserve unit currently stationed at the hospital. The exercise included the rapid conversion of the Emergency Department (ER) into an MCI configuration, primary triage of casualties, and the activation of specialized treatment zones (Immediate, Minimal, and Waiting). The ER staff was reinforced by multi-disciplinary teams from across the hospital, including trauma units, imaging, the blood bank, and pediatric and OB-GYN specialists.
*Large-Scale Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Drill Conducted at Laniado Hospital*
Furthermore, the drill simulated the transfer of critical patients to the operating theaters and the operational ac tivation of the hospital’s helipad.

Message from Eli Knoller, Director of Development & Community Affairs
• We celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for our New Sheltered Emergency Hospital — a transformative project that will dramatically expand our capacity to serve during times of war and crisis. This approximately $55 million project will create a fully protected emergency facility capable of operating even during sustained missile attacks. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, ensuring that our community will be protected and prepared for generations to come . • We gathered for our Annual Gala Evening celebrating 50 years of Laniado — an inspiring night honoring five decades of compassionate care, medical excellence, and unwavering dedication to our mission. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of those in attendance, the evening enabled us to dedicate a Trauma Room Bay in the New Sheltered Emergency Hospital, a powerful and lifesaving legacy for the future . • We were privileged to lead a special campaign in memory of our long-time friend and devoted supporter, Dr. Charles Simenoff ז"ל . Through this meaningful tribute, we were able to dedicate cutting edge medical equipment to our ENT Department , ensuring that his legacy of healing and generosity will continue to benefit patients for years to come . • Our Purim E-Card Project once again united supporters across the globe. Most moving of all was watching our devoted volunteers pack and distribute mishloach manot to our beloved IDF soldiers in the midst of the “ Operation Roaring Lion" — bringing sweetness, strength, and a tangible reminder that they are never alone . Each of these accomplishments reflects your partnership. You turn vision into reality. You transform gratitude into action . Looking ahead, we are preparing for our upcoming Nursing Scholarship Campaign and Distribution Ceremony — investing in the next generation of nurses who will carry forward Laniado’ s legacy of compassionate, patient-centered care. At a time when healthcare professionals are needed more than ever, this initiative is both urgent and deeply inspiring . For those who wish to see firsthand how our hospital has been responding during these challenging days, we invite you to watch several short video clips
Protecting Life — Even Under Fire Dear Friends and Supporters , As missile sirens sound across our region, the teams at Laniado Hospital are doing something extraordinary: protecting life in
every possible way. Patients are being carefully moved into protected areas, critical departments continue operating in fortified spaces, and even as alerts interrupt our routines, babies are still being born . During these tense hours, mothers and their newborns have been safely transferred immediately after delivery into our newly built Maternity C Department — a space that is already partially sheltered. It is a powerful reminder that even under the shadow of war, life continues, and preparation saves lives . As we approach Pesach , the Festival of Freedom , we pause to reflect on the meaning of this sacred season — a time when we gather with family, retell our story, and recommit ourselves to hope, faith, and responsibility for one another . Pesach reminds us that freedom is never something we take for granted. It is precious. It is fragile. And it carries with it an obligation — to care for those who need us, to strengthen our community, and to build a future worthy of the sacrifices of those who came before us . Because of you, that work continues every single day . We are also deeply grateful that several of our critical departments — including our labor and delivery rooms, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), dialysis unit, and MRI center — are already fully missile-protected . These lifesaving protections were made possible through the sheltering initiative we began together six years ago. Today, that foresight is proving invaluable . At the same time, the current situation reminds us how urgent it is to continue strengthening the hospital’s prot ective infrastructure . Since our last newsletter, together we have reached several meaningful milestones :

Message from Eli Knoller, Director of Development & Community Affairs (continued) showing our staff in action — moving patients to protected areas and ensuring the safety of mothers, newborns, and all those in our care. These videos can be viewed on our Facebook page and YouTube channel . The reality we are living through today makes one truth unmistakably clear: the need for a fully sheltered emergency hospital is not a distant vision, but an urgent necessity. With your continued partnership, we will be able to complete this vital $55 million project and ensure that lifesaving care at Laniado can continue safely — no matter the circumstances .
This year, as we sit at the Seder table and speak about moving from darkness to light, we are especially mindful of the challenges our people continue to face. Yet we are equally mindful of the extraordinary strength, unity, and resilience that define our community — strength made possible by friends like you .
On behalf of our entire team, and the many individuals and families whose lives you touch, we thank you. May this Pesach bring you and your loved one's health, peace, comfort, and true freedom . Chag Pesach Kasher Ve’Sameac h , - חג פס ח כשר ושמח Eli Knoller

Scholarships for students of our Tessler Academic School of Nursing
The need has never been greater — and the deadline is fast approaching . As Israel faces a nationwide nursing shortage, demand for our Annual Nurses Scholarship Program is at an all-time high. Outstanding candidates are waiting, and we must finalize our scholarship recipients by June 30th, 2026 , in order to prepare for the scholarship distribution ceremony , that will be held in the presence of our donors. We are reaching out to you — our partners around the world — to help us meet this urgent moment. Our scholarship program supports exceptional women at critical stages of their nursing careers: • BSN nursing students preparing to enter the profession • Women in our unique career-change program , who already hold a bachelor’s degree and are answering the call to nursing • Dedicated nursing staff members advancing through specialty training, such as internal medicine nurses qualifying to become ICU nurses This program is built as a proven win-win model . Only top-qualified candidates are selected, and each
scholarship recipient commits, upon completion of her training, to working at Laniado Hospital. This ensures that — even amid a national shortage — our patients receive care from the most skilled, compassionate, and committed nurses . Watch a short video here to hear directly from program graduates and learn what this opportunity has meant to them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIK-a0bPCBM We urgently need your support before June 30, 2026 , so that no deserving candidate is turned away. A gift of 7,000 NIS (or equivalent) sponsors one nurse. Contributions may be made easily in NIS, USD, GBP, or AUD , and are tax-deductible in these currencies . Give securely online by credit card here: https://laniadosupporters.org.il/ For additional options — including installment payments, bank transfers, or stock donations — please contact us directly. Many donors choose to make this a meaningful annual commitment , knowing their generosity directly strengthens Israel’s healthcare system. Your support today will have an immediate impact — and at a future date to be announced, donors and
recipients will come together to celebrate the lives changed through this shared investment in the future of nursing care in Israel. Thank you for standing with our nurses at this critical time.

The first five!
Recently there was an all-time record in the Laniado Hospital’s Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – five pairs of twins being treated in the neonatal intensive care unit, which has been operating for decades. The premature babies, weighing between 1,400 grams and 2,900 grams, were born at 31-36 weeks of pregnancy. The parents are residents of the Central and Sharon regions. The treatment of the five pairs of twins is concurrent with the treatment of the triplets born at 33 weeks. The N.I.C.U at Laniado Hospital is located in a new, fully protected complex. It is one of the largest in Israel. It contains a large intensive care unit, an intermediate care unit, and a unit preparing for discharge. The N.I.C.U. is equipped with advanced medical equipment and devices, as well as a space for families to stay, allowing for extended stays around the clock Dr. Aryeh Simmonds , Head of Neonatology and NICU , and Ms. Eti Littig , Nurse in Charge of the Prenatal Care Unit , said: "We are privileged to treat premature babies of all weights, born in the early weeks of pregnancy. More and more parents feel confident about coming to give birth at Laniado ,
despite known clinical problems of the fetuses, due to their trust in the Prenatal Care Unit team, which consists of a multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing and paramedical staff. As those who have been in the Prenatal Care Unit for many years, we are excited to treat so many pairs of twins at the same time and even triplets, and we work around the clock to enable the premature babies to be released as soon as possible, in perfect health, for the rest of their lives". Mr. Nadav Chen , CEO of Laniado Hospital , noted: "About four years ago, we inaugurated the new neonatal ward, in a protected building, equipped and outfitted with the most advanced medical equipment available on the market. The goal was to provide the best care for newborns who need it and a feeling of maximum security for mothers. The new neonatal ward is part of the construction and development of the Women's and Maternity Department, which includes 12 new delivery rooms, a new pediatric emergency room, new gynecological operating rooms, and, even a third maternity ward. The trust that the department's staff receives from many mothers in labor is due first and foremost to the dedication and professionalism of the team!"

Erin Kim – volunteer in the Public Relations Office
My name is Erin Kim and I’m 16 years old. I was born in Michigan and I’ve lived in Cambodia, New Jersey, South Korea, and finally, Israel. My parents are from a city called Dae-gu in Korea. My family moved here because of my father’s job.
perspective and strengthened my ability to adapt and understand others — skills I know will be valuable as I plan for the future. I want to thank everyone who supports Laniado and helps care for patients in Netanya. I also want to express my gratitude to Malky, Sue , and Eli from the Suppor ters’ Adminis tration , who have been so encouraging and friendly, and who gave me this wonderful opportunity to volunteer. I have found my experience here to be humbling, immersive and fulfilling! Israel has been an exotic, one-of-a-kind place for me, giving me the chance to adapt, explore, and discover new things about myself and the world. I had always read about Israel in books or seen it in movies, but living here has been really eye-opening and life changing, even dream-like. I especially loved waking up to the vast, crystal-clear ocean view outside my window every morning - a striking contrast to the apartment buildings in Korea or low-set houses in U.S. I ’ve noticed that Israelis s hare qualities with Koreans: they value community, are witty and tactful, and are willing to help foreigners. Though I only began volunteering at Laniado a little later into my stay, it has made my time in Israel feel even more enriching and gratifying. I feel that the world is made up of individuals, and in the end, helping just one person can mean the world to them. Taking initiative to support others, especially when they least expect it, not only makes a positive impact on their lives but allows me, as a teenager, to grow into the person I hope to become. Small actions add up over time, and stepping stones like these can lead to even greater contributions and achievements in the future. I have come to realize that each supporter may donate to Laniado for various personal reasons, but together, their contributions make a huge difference. Without their generosity, the hospital c ouldn’t operate as effectively or provide the care it does for so many patients today.
My mother actually went to Laniado Hospital to get a blood test. It was the first time we visited such a large hospital in Israel. Later, we found out that the hospital was founded by a Holocaust survivor . This was very memorable for me. I decided to volunteer because as a high school student, I’ve always devoted my time to academics. However, I wanted to challenge myself by stepping out of m y comfort zone. Although I’ve lived and traveled internationally, I often find myself, ironically, in a bubble of expatriates. Volunteering gave me the opportunity to connect with the local community and contribute meaningfully to the societ y I’m living in , so I accepted gladly. I was impressed with how many donations have been and are being made to Laniado Hospital. I think helping manage donations of a hospital is very meaningful, as it partially relies on the support of people living in Israel and abroad. Without such organization, the hospita l wouldn’t be able to run as efficiently. Living in Israel has exposed me to a culture that is very different from the places I’ve been to before. A t Laniado , I’v e seen how healthcare is adapted to meet cultural and religious needs. This experience has helped me feel truly immersed in a unique cultural environment. I was surprised at how many people from the U.S. and England donate to Laniado. I discovered that I can adapt to new environments, that I’m wi lling to learn new things and engage with different people. Volunteering has helped me develop my organizational and teamwork skills. It broadened my

Wishing you a long life- Ad 120 Traditionally, we wish our friends a long life, ad 120, (until 120) which was the age Moshe Rabbeinu was when he passed away. We would like to remind our friends around the world, regardless of their age or health, of the great importance of advanced estate planning. Failure to do so might allow the State to use your assets in ways you might not have wanted. We encourage our friends and supporters to apply long-lasting legacy gifts to mid and long term projects at Laniado Hospital , where we will continue to serve the People of Israel for generations to come. Two such projects planned in the coming years are the new sheltered Emergency Department (4,000 sq. meters) and the Hospital Tower (40,000 sq. meters), to be built at a cost of over $250 million. For more details on the various opportunities, please feel free to confidentially contact Eli Knoller on 052-634-5741 or eknoller@laniado.org.il The People of Israel will thank you.
